Spanish singer and composer Rosalía, celebrated for reshaping flamenco into a global phenomenon, has once again defied expectations with her new single “Berghain.” Drawing on her classical training at the Catalonia College of Music, she weaves orchestral forces, operatic vocals, and electronic textures into a work that feels as much like a contemporary opera scene as a pop release.

The track features the London Symphony Orchestra under Icelandic conductor Daníel Bjarnason, with guest appearances by Björk and Yves Tumor. Sung in Spanish, English, and German, “Berghain” unfolds as a hypnotic blend of symphonic drama and experimental club energy — a reflection of Rosalía’s ongoing fascination with the boundaries between the sacred and the modern.
Critics have praised the release as one of her most ambitious works to date. Pitchfork wrote, “Never before has Rosalía flexed her classical training this hard: composing in three languages, turning in a performance that’s almost all coloratura.” Rolling Stone Philippines called it “a new high point in her sonic evolution.”
And the classical world hasn’t stayed silent — it’s buzzing. Decca Records highlighted “Berghain” on Instagram while also curating a selection of classical works that resonate with Rosalía’s adventurous spirit. Violinist Kristine Balanas posted a solo arrangement showcasing the song’s operatic and orchestral DNA. Content creator Daria Challah, currently in residence at the ElbPhilharmonie, shared a video calling “Berghain” “the most important thing that happened to classical music this year.”
