Semyon Bychkov will begin a four-year term as Music Director of the Paris Opera starting on August 1, 2028. Alexander Neef, General Director of the Opéra national de Paris, highlighted Bychkov’s “long association with the Paris Opera, marked by memorable artistic encounters and a common desire to work together.”
Bychkov has collaborated closely with the Opéra national de Paris for nearly twenty years, conducting major productions including Un ballo in maschera, Tristan und Isolde, and Elektra, with Eugene Onegin to follow in 2026, as well as key symphonic projects and international tours.
Bychkov will begin to work closely with the company this August as Music Director Designate.
